Hello there

Just after a bit of advice please. Our house has an ancient back boiler/heating system (should have thought about this when we bought the house a yr ago).

Anyway, for the last few months the pilot light has been going out and before i could quickly get it lit but now over the last few weeks it has been really hard to get light the pilot and sometimes have to just give up therefore having no hot water or heating. The insides of the fire look really dirty/dusty and ive been told this can sometimes make lighting difficult?

To top this off - my BF tried taking the front of the fire off yesterday to give it a clean inside and when i returned home he said he has accidently pulled the wire out of out sparker! the idiot, im fuming!! :x so now i cant even get a spark to try and light the pilot and its too far in to reach and try and fix this wire (he said it just needs putting back in place).

Do you think these problems will be easy to fix? We dont have much money at the moment and i constantly worry that out boiler is gonna pack in for good n we will need a new one (which there is no chance of us affording) im panicking please help.

Were gonna get someone from British Gas coz they said they would service it for £58 but im not sure about parts.

thanks for reading X :D

Sunny Gal.....you need an RGI for this. As noted your boyfriend seems to have only made things worse. Could just need a good service and clean...but maybe there is more of a problem. Let the rgi deal with it. You can repair back boilers still (assuming parts availability). You can no longer fit a new gas back boiler tho.

get a gas fitter to check it out probs just thermocouple and replace wire both cheap.just need a honest plumber who doesnt see work
