no hot water.un vented range storage tank.

phone call from my brother,has no hot water.
has the above storage tank and immersion is only heating to luke warm temperature.
heating is ok but boiler does not start up for hot water on its own.
system 2 years old and builder done a runner.
any help ?.

he has found the reset button under a screwed plastic cap next to the temperature selector.
he has tried to push it in but it just springs back out.
 
well he finally got a reply form his house insurers who also supply essentail repairs for utilitys.
they sent a technican to investigate.he said needs new cylinder as scaled and tripped out heat protection thermal break,so sounds serious.
left a quote for 2 grand plus.
does this sound about correct.
 
If it's only two years old it should be under warranty with Range (I think). It's unlikely that a cylinder will scale up that badly in two years, and in any case it's normally possible to replace components rather than the whole thing.

It could just be a faulty zone valve of course...

no not at all... after 2 yrs? highly unlikely
if the overheat has tripped then more than likely cylinder stat / overheat stat/motorised valve faulty also if the cylinder has now cooled down and the overheat stat wont reset then the overheat stat is definatly faulty so start there
