Hi there,

I wondering if anyone can help me. I have recently fitted brand new wall lights in my lounge, 4 in total, which all worked brilliantly. The light switch for these was outside the room and so as i have been decorating my way through the property i wanted to replace the light switch and now i have a major problem in that there now seems to be no live wire! I have tested all the fuses and all ok, i get lights in every other room in the flat and everytime i test all wires with the screwdriver, nothing!

Also as i was removing the horrible wallpaper on the ceiling of the lounge, i found a ceiling rose which has so many wires coming out for it! There is a live wire there and i am 99% certain that can be controlled by the same switch, obviously making it a double one, which is what i want to do but i cant understand why none of the wires is live! Please see picture below, you can see the 2 red, 2 black and one earth, which is 2 just joined together.

Can someone please offer any "light" (LOL) on this???

Thanks

Don't know what you mean. If the old switch worked OK then replacing it would not have stopped anything from working, provided you used the same type of switch and wired it up in the same way.

How many?

The presence of a live wire at a ceiling rose doesn't make any switch obviously anything..

There's an access problem with your album, can't see the photo.

What happens if you put the old switch back the way it was (you did make a careful note, didn't you...)?

Was the old switch 1-gang or 2-gang? Do you have 1-way or 2-way switching of the lights?

Did things stop working after you replaced the switch, or after you fiddled with the rose?

You should read all the information in the Wiki and the For Reference topic on how lighting circuits work.

Oh - and go and buy a multimeter....
