hi, iv just bought a 3 bedroom semi. iv been up in the loft and there is nothing fitted under the tiles, must have just been the way they where constructed in those days. the drafts and dirt coming in is immense.

whats the best thing to do to improve things. i want to stop the dirt and improve insulation.

the rafters are about 8 inchs deep at a guess.

A couple of layers of loft insulation at ceiling level will sort the heat loss out and a breathable membrane tacked to the underside of the rafters will reduce the dust. You'll probably be able to get a discount on the loft insulation from your energy supplier.

BTW a drafty loft is a good loft.

do you mean celotex board or similar pinned to the underside?

No, fit this above your loft ceiling

and hang/tack/fix/drape this http://www.screwfix.com/prods/55379...ct-VP400-Breathable-Roofing-Underlay-1m-x-50m from your rafters to stop the dust.
