I changed the Power Options control panel settings on my (XP SP3) PC so that the monitor turns off after 5 minutes and it goes to system standby after 5 minutes. The hard disk never turns off. After I changed the settings it went to stand by as expected, but now a week later it no longer goes to stand by. The PC is completely standalone and does not have an internet connection. What’s going on?

Err???

The Power Options control panel has separate setting for "Monitor" and "System Standby" on the Power Scheme tab, both are set to 5 minutes. Have I got to set something else?

dont know realy mines is set for monitor at 5 and computer at 15 shut off

OK, thanks.

Anyone know just how much you really save by putting the computer on standby, assuming that the monitor is turned off.
