boiler fires up but only runs for 2 to 3 minuets, just removed pump looks fine, but when i opened stop valve on ether side of the pump there was no water, loft tank is 3/4 full

Have you checked for blockage on the cold feed ?
sometimes the spindle can break.....but morelikely blocked cold feed.......there`s info about this in the FAQs and stickys on the forum DIYnot Local
