I'm changing a single storey plastic roof for a slate (man made) roof (3600 x 3200mm) with rafters that are approx. 650mm apart. I intended to insert noggins (4x2) at 1200mm points to pick up the internal plasterboard sheets but was advised to put them at 600mm intervals to avoid plasterboard sag. Is this correct.

Will it make a difference if I put in 2x2 noggins at the 600 and 1800 points?

Best to go back to square one and decide if the structure is up to the job before you start loading it up! Also is the pitch suitable for slate?

What is this roof over?

Certainly with rafters at 650mm apart (is that centres or the gap between?) you would need support for plasterboard every 600mm and 2x2's should be adequate.

Many thanks Blagard.

650mm is the centre measurement

The roof is over a sun room - I've had the structure checked by a chippy who is happy that it will bear the weight of tiles and I have added joist hangers and brackets as 'belt and braces'!

A couple of Velux windows are being inserted so I'm probably being over cautious on the weight thing. I will use 2x2 on alternate noggins at 600mm.

Once again many thanks
