Our central heating system is quite old now and we do have plans to replace it when funds allow but we have a problem with it. When the bolier fires up it only seems to stay on for a few seconds and then shuts off with 3 or 4 loud bangs which sound like someone banging a chisel against cat iron......I tend to think the pumps gone but i dont have a clue really. Also water doesnt seem to be getting hot as it should and water also runs out very quickly. any help anyone please.

its a Thorn emi apollo boiler with hotwater tank upstairs.

thanks for replying....

how can that happen though? Surely it would have to have been drained down in some way? I dont know much about this but i know the system hasnt been drained ...its been switched to hot water only for summer but would that cause a problem?
