For the last week or so my boiler has been making a noise like a jumbo jet is passing over the house, but only when the hot tap is turned on. If you leave the tap on the noise goes away temporarily, but then returns about every 40 seconds or so. It appears to be somewhere near the top of the boiler and is a real loud noise if the tap is turned off during the noise it will come to an abrupt end. Heating works fine with no noise ? any idea's

wouldn't it do the same in central heating mode ?
i have been told it needs a new heat exchanger at £140 is that a rip off
