20-year old Potterton Suprema 40. I noticed it was getting noisier. Bugger - new boiler? They don't last forever. Damn expensive.
The fan is mounted on three rubber mounts and then there's a further short, squat rubber cylinder mounted under the fan motor to support its weight. I decided that I didn't want to mess with anything that might compromise any gas seal or any safety stuff like that. But the rubber cylinder supporting the fan motor is just a rubber tube and it was showing its age - looked a bit compressed and the motor assembly was sagging a bit - it looked like the rubber cylinder should have been keeping it a bit higher. So I just added a rubber shim to bring the motor back up to where it would originally have been.
This morning it fired up as usual and it was so quiet I thought I must have broken the fan! Lovely jubbly.

I'm not recommending that anyone do anything that they're not competent at. Gas is proper dangerous. But had to share - power to your elbows, everyone! The ultimate recycling is repairing.
