I have a 30 year old Glow Worm economy plus boiler which has been fairly reliable over this period. It is just on morning and late afternoon at the moment for hot water only. A couple of days ago the metal casing has started to vibrate when boiler fires up. If I put my hand on the front of the casing the noise stops only to restart when I let go. It has never done this before in the 30 yrs we have had it. It has been serviced every year. What could be causing this vibration?

As it stops when you put your hand on the panel then it could be the catches on the boiler panel. Ariston type clips can get a bit loose with time allowing the panel to vibrate.

If you get the boiler serviced yearly then your regular chap will be well versed with it and will be the best placed to sort it out for you.
