Hi Fellas,
Ihave a problem with my CH that has only recently started to occur. Ihave a gravity fed system. The problem is that there is a loud vibrating/hammering noise that comes from the area of where the pump is fitted in the airing cupboard, this tends to last for about 2-3mins then subsides but then returns again as if it was some sort of cycle?
any help would be appreciated. thanks

could be a TRV fitted wrong way round or an anti-gravity valve not working properly but a bit more info wouldnt go amiss

Are your rads getting a lot hotter than before, when the noise starts is any water shooting up into the header tank. IF so then your boiler thermostat has gone

dont have any trv's fitted and what more info would you require?

havnt noticed my rads getting hotter than normal and not yet checked the header tank. The noise also occurs even if i only have my central heating calling for hot water only?

sounds like some of your fixings have worked loose which hold the pump to the wall.

My pump is not secured to a wall, it sits secured between two pipes (one in, one out)

whats the make/model of boiler, what type of system - guessing is not the best method of diagnosing

hi mick
its a gloworm boiler not sure what type but its pretty old! and a gravity fed system.
