The cold main travels DOWN a stud wall in our bedroom. (This is because when we built the extension, they were renewing the cold main in the road and we took the opportunity to run a new fat plastic pipe into the extension, replacing the narrow copper one into the original house). The upshot is that the mains now runs up into the extension loft, across the loft into the original house and down to the kitchen, whereas it used to run up!.
Whenever the cold tap is run in the kitchen, there is considerable noise in the bedroom. This is a simple rushing noise whilst the tap is open - no bangs, no water hammer.
Is this an inevitable consequence of the arrangement or is there something that can be done to quieten it?
