Hi,

I live in a dormer bungalow, my hot water cylinder is in a cupboard in my bedroom with a copper feed and expansion tank above.

My girlfriend likes a lie in, so when i have a shower she can hear the tank filling up, is there any way to insulate it, or somehow alter the flow from the float value (i.e. so it feeds up from the bottom of the tank)?

Thanks

Nope, afraid not.

The valve and tank is designed in such a way that there is a deliberate air gap between the outlet of the valve and water in the tank to avoid back flow and thereby 'contaminating' the cold water supply.

Some valves are definitely quieter than others though. Seen some old ones with a kind of spreader tube which stops noise but still maintains the air gap, never seen them for sale new though (not that I've looked).
