Noisy hot water system - Any ideas? (includes pictures)

On an open system there often isn't enough pressure to force the valve shut again. All it takes is a small bit of dirt and it'll start weeping a bit (usually doesn't pour out).

I think the Altecnic Robocal AAV is good. Always keep the black screw in place unless you think there's air to purge (ie don't lose it).

I'm going to fit it to an isolation valve as suggested and just use it now and again to vent the system

This should stop any leak problem

Sacrum, would you agree the AAV cap should be unscrewd and left in place to act as a dust cap? That is what the installation instructions say. How else would the item be called auto air vent

Not if you've got holes in the rads and a sludged system.

Fit the isolater, the aav, leave the aav open. If you find it leaks swap it back out for a manual air vent.

Your initial question was how to cure the noise.

I have a similar setup to the OP and mine makes a whooshing sound too on startup of hot water only..But my setup does not look as tidy as yours.

Defeats the purpose somewhat by fitting an AAV and then using it as a manual vent. Why not just fit a thumb vent (will even sell you one ) or a bleed vent). Can you be sure the point where you intend to fit the AAV is not at negative pressure thereby letting more air in? After all you have an open vented system, so part of your system will be at positive pressure, then there would be a neutral point and depending on height of the F&E cistern and pump speed, you may have negative pressure too

Am sure plumbers who are the kings, will throw more light on the subject
