Hi Guys,

Just wondering if someone can help with this problem?

I have recently changed all 3 pairs of wash hand basin taps in the house. All three pairs are identical make and model. The problem I now have is that all 3 hot water taps vibrate/shudder really badly once the hot water starts running through them.
The thing is this never happened with the old taps before I replaced them. The new taps were not the most expensive (B&Q's own make I think). Is this a common problem with the cheaper brands?
Would appreciate your advice before I splash out on more expensive ones.

Cheers,
Brian

armo do you mean quarter turn ceramic discs

we all make mistakes that is why they put rubbrs on pencils

It's a system bolier with an unvented hot water cylinder. We have high water pressure.

I remember the name of the taps - Plumbsure Crystal. They're not quarter turn taps.

are they on rigid pipework or flexipipes if flexis make sure no kinks in pipes restricting flow as a first check

so you have no problem with cold only hot are doing this i am wondering if these valves have changed since you fitted the original ones try fitting the old valves just to see the problem is water supply or taps as you said old taps never done this so check that first

Hi Peekay,
Not sure what you mean about old valves? I don't have the original taps anymore.

what i was thinking was replace the new valve with old valve and see if it cured problem then you would have known the new valves are at fault but if you dont have old taps its is irrevelant

do you have ballofix valve on pipework to taps if yes try turning then to restrict flow and see if that cures prob too much pressure could be the issue just turn on tap and adjust ballofix with screwdriver whilst tap is running should sort it if high pressure is problem

Thanks for that peekay. I was intending to fit ballofix valves to the upstairs taps in the next week or two so that I can remove the basin to tile behind it. I'll let you know how I get on.
