Hi
I have recently replaced my boiler from a gravity fed system to a combi. Now that all my water outlets are mains fed pressure, my toilet fill valve is now noisy. Although it only now takes less than 10 seconds to fill, it is annoyingly noisy. Any ideas?

Unless you still have the high pressure filter clipped to it and that you can swap for the low pressure one in it, which I'd very much doubt, you'll need to replace it and make sure the high pressure filter is used.

Strangely enough I just replaced my fill valve (got fed up trying to get the right diaphragm for my 2006 'Ideal Standard' fill valve).

City Plumbing have a Skylo/Viva brass shank, bottom fill valve for about £6.50 inc vat. Cheap as chips.

But I noticed that is has a built in stainless steel wire mesh dirt filter at the inlet as well as providing a blue plastic restrictor, loose in the pack. No mention of this restrictor in the instructions. And when you try to tease the weire mesh filter out of the inlet it really doesn't want to come out. So I omitted the restrictor despite having 3 bar mains fed supply.

Have to be honest and say it's not especially noisy and it fills a million times quicker than the old (original fit) one did.

I suppose you could nip the isolating valve down a bit to see if that had any effect. The alternative has to be trying a new fill valve and at £6.50 the Skylo is no more expensive than a new diaphragm if ordered online and paying postage.

Having said all that I do believe the more popular fill valve is the Fluidmaster. But I can only say what I fitted myself.
