I have a Heatline 24 boiler with a hot water setting. At the moment it is running on maximum but the water coming out is only very warm and not hot. is this the cold weather ? The bar reading is between 1 and 2.

most likely just the weather. I'm guessing your boiler is a combi.

Most combis can achieve around a 35 degree 'lift' in water temperarture (water temp in to water temp out). Some achieve a bit more but let's say 35 degrees for now.

Water from the cold tap will be anywhere from just above 0 in winter to over 20 degrees in summer.

So, let's say in summer your incoming water is 20 degrees, the temp at the output of your boiler will be around 50 degrees. A really hot shower is around 42 degrees so 50 is pretty hot.

In winter though (and especially around now) the incoming temperature may be only a couple of degrees. So, if it were to come in at 2 degrees the output temp will only be arounf 37 degrees. Quite warm but not hot.

My old flat had a combi and in winter the shower was never quite hot enough for my tates but in summer it could easily scold you at full temp.

In a couple of weeks the temp should start to rise and hopefully all should be well with your hot water again.

The other solution is to use less flow.

The 35 degree rise on a 24 kW boiler is only for a flow of 9 litres per minute so reduce the flow if you want a higher temperature.

Tony raises a good point and also gives you a wee debg tool. If the water temp does not increase as you reduce the flow then there may actually be something wrong and you might want to do a bit more investigation.

As a nice definitive test, you could get a thermometer and measure the temperature of the cold water from your kitchen taps (or whichever taps are closest to the boiler). Let it run for a while to get to a stable temp.

Then measure the hot water temp. If it is not 30-35 degrees warmer than the cold you may want to have an RGI have a look at it.
