Tom Lehrer, the acclaimed humorist and pianist whose satirical songs made him one of America’s favorite prophets of doom before he retreated to academia, has died, US media reported on Sunday. He was 97.

His influence on Neil Innes is clear when you hear his songs in early Monty Python gigs and albums. RIP.

Oh no. I love Tom Lehrer. The songs were only a hobby. He was a child prodigy at maths and went to Harvard University at 15, before becoming an academic. This is one of my favourites:
