notching vertical stub in wall

There's nothing on paper as far as I know. A stud wall is different as it isn't classed as a supporting wall as such, all it is doing is providing a structure for panels to be attached and once the surface is up then it's strength is integral to the whole box structure.

That being said I would avoid it if you can, difficult to mark up so no one pierces it accidentally in the future. If really needed then I'd either spade bit a hole through the centre or a notch no further than about 1/3 through a vertical stud.
