Been talking to a few installers and 99% are not notifying .A few have tied ,but failed due to corgi line constantly engaged and internet site crashing.Ur thoughts please.
Gas work Notification is a condition of registration dreamt up by the “Cash Cow” (Corgi), it is NOT a law of the land. Building Regulations allow for Registered Gas Installers to self certify, the ODPM have no plans to change it.
Corgy cannot legally issue safety certificates saying a boiler or any gas related installation has been installed correctly, and according to the manufacturers instruction and is therefore safe without first checking the installation/appliance/s. The document is therefore worthless, unsafe, and according to Mike Thompson’s statistics could even put lives and property in considerable danger.
The sale of goods act will say that any goods including labour must be fit for the purpose to which it was sold. That includes boilers and the manufacturers cannot overrule the statutory rights of the consumer.
The legislation for the home information pack is not due to become Law until 2007 at least. Until such time as it becomes law, Corgy or anyone else for that matter cannot legally demand notification for inclusion in the HIP. GWN was rejected by the ODPM and is why Corgy had to make it a condition of registration with the threat to strike you off if you didn’t comply.
And if the poster wishes to have a condensing boiler installed in the airing cupboard or loft then he can and any RGI would be pleased to quote for the work.
What has caused the naming? (DJ Cook (thescruff)).
Actually, something I tried hard to get people at ARGI to adopt albeit without much success.
My attempt to be ready to notify failed when I peeled off the cover slip on the pin number and could not see the number. A telephone call told me that, unlike the banks, CORGI had adopted a different strategy ( again ) and the pin number was on the little bit peeled off and thrown away.
Two emails to CORGI, same address, same day, one got reply about part P, other asking for new PIN was ignored.
I didn't have any trouble reading the PIN (better with those than grey knobs Tone) but I was surprised that it wasn't the same as the one previously advised.

Dia, this (or similar) notification is demanded by OFTEC for various works covered by the statement from oftec that they have been asked by the ODPM to have a scheme whereby they notify the householder and building control of the work carried out. Is this similar to the corgi scam, or something legitimate?
I do know that the ODPM and the HSE turned down Corgy's request for GWN saying it was un-neccessary given that RGIs could self certificate and the building control office was happy with the way things were.
The only way Corgy could impliment this was by making it a condition of registration, saying you will notify or be stuck off, affectively sticking two fingers up to the ODPM and the HSE.
Perhaps some more research is in order at the ODPM I can say there is no legislation at this time for it.
Fine, I am already irritating them by asking why I can add a spur to a ring main without notification, AND I can replace any component of the heating system control circuit without notification, so why is it being put about that if I install a control circuit which can connect to my unnotifiable spur, I HAVE TO NOTIFY THEM!!! (No part P certificate).
Sooooo........I will ask about the legal requirement for this possible scam. (If lots of people did the same they would give in, so please write to [email protected])
