Novel Electric Shower

Bizarre, isn't it.

I wonder if the new owner is happy to know that he has such high spec stuff, or if he's worried that it might not be easily maintainable?

That was why he asked for a Test and Inspect when John went back to replace the flow switch, he was concerned that the house may have hidden horrors somewhere..this Guy is anti-DIY!!

This house is an anomaly, probably no more than 1 in 10,000 houses has that kind of spec. Even houses where someone spends thousands on multi-room a/v and automation, it is unusual that they would put in over-rated wiring.

Something to aspire to? Perhaps some of you sparks out there should start to offer a "future proof" rewire, using overspecced cable to take into account pretty much any eventuality. After all, this house is unlikely to require much work to put in a load of new sockets anywhere in the house because the ring is rated to twice what is usually specified. So in the long run it might be cheaper over the years :?:

Found something interesting out about the Guy that owned the house before.

It would seem, from information gleaned by the current owner from neighbours, that he was a Colonel in REME and actually taught Electrical Engineering for REME, later at Oxford and now somewhere in the US..they think MIT!!

That does explain a lot!!

doesn't sound too hard to maintain

those rings can still be spurred in the normal way with twin and earth.

imho a well designed conduit system should never reauire the walls to be broken open again just new cables pulled through when the old ones get beyond the point of being serviceable

proud householders working on thier own property tend to like to do things in the best way they can

For those who did not know: MIMS = "Mineral Insulated Metal Sheathed"

There was a time when tradesmen took a pride in their workmanship, sadly lacking these days!

No tradesman could ever afford to take that much pride!

In this vein, I also still find it unusual for NEW homes not to be offered the option of running in at least Cat 5 / telecoms cabling into the main rooms and the telephone socket being put anywhere except in the lounge by the front window (because, of course no-one has DECT / cordless phones in this day and age)

On another point though, what kind of price hike are we talking about compared to a "standard" install for this sort of spec?

So, come on, Jim. Where are these promised piccys???

Good point, need to get them from John..to be honest I had forgotten about this as I have been busy with other things..thanks for the reminder.

Hard to believe but they did, cable/pyro runs were dead straight with clips precisely spaced apart, tray and trunking work was meticulously shaped without gaps showing just to give some examples(the attention to little details) and the work didn't take much longer to do as the tradesmen were skilled in working that way, nowadays it seems to be just "chucked in" and a lot of horrors are hidden under the floorboards, it seems todays "tradesmen" only seem to take care about what they do in their own homes and can't wait to get out of the buildings they are doing work for someone else in, there just doesn't seem to be that sense of pride anymore because of time constraints, money or whatever. A sad reflection of the times we live in today.
