Are there any regulations regarding which numbered conductors to use for P, N, or CPC when using single phase, or is it just a case of sheathing the conductors with the appropriate sleeves?

Thanks

Ade

No regulations as such but recommended colour eqivs are:

Red = Brown
Yellow = Black
Blue = Grey

And yes sleeve to avoid any mistakes and put approved label on consumer unit to state that two types of wiring are used.

not "recommended" colours.. mandatory replacements in new cables..

he's also not asking what colours to use, he's asking what numbers to use for phase / earth / neutral in a 3 core cable which has all black conductors with numbers on the individual wires for identification..

I personally use the highest number wire for earth if it has no separate earth.. most multicore cables come with one wire as an earth.

lowest for phases in increasing number and the next number as neutral

can you quote a reg supporting that? i know the electromafia push it but i'm pretty sure its just thier convention and not regs.

referring to the latest edition of the regulations... ( brown book )

in general, section 514 of the regs, and appendix 7, including tables 7a, b, c, d, and e.. which deal with the old colours used and the new ones to be used..

specifically, regulation 514-04-04 which refers to table 51 which lists the various alphanumeric and colour identification allowed..

Thanks people, I was indeed enquiring about all black numbered conductors, as it happened I used 1 for phase, 2- N and Y/G -CPC, sleeved them so I guess I was OK. Thanks for the replies.
