Nursing shortage to increase by 1

Andy obliquely refers to older people such as himself being an increasing drain on NHS resources. Can he not realise that the aging population is the source of the excess demand he complains about?
And this is a very obvious trend that could have been predicted by basic simple planning.

We should start by being tougher on Tory govt spaffing money on private healthcare contracts to it their mates.
Nah, we should start by educating people on the capacity of a currency issuing government.

Resignations, early retirements because the pension pot is too big so not tax efficient or simply retirement?, As long as more people join than leave (which is the current case), it's irrelevant.
Odd. In areas I am aware of people who work for the state do not have a pension pot they pay into a traditional pension fund. Early retirement in those usually has complications even in terms of being able to take up that option. GP's may be different but don't appear to be. Dentists?

GP's One who talked to me mentioned that he couldn't retire until he was 65. That in the period where lots of people were retiring early. Same practice. 2 female gp's retired at 60. One male gp retired a little early due to health problems. That usually is the way to get a full pension in these types of schemes when someone retires early. DOB wont have interfered with these peoples retirement age.

Not all that long ago hospital doctors were walking out due to changes that altered their pension entitlements compared with their salary.

Teachers. My wife could retire at 60 due to her DOB. Some of her friends can't. Retirement age depends on DOB. One is saving like mad so she can retire at 60 but her pension wont appear until she reaches her particular pension age.

Teachers had their early retirement jamboree a long time ago now. The carrot was no penalties. One of my cousins took them up on it. Changes to her work area and there was no way she was going to comply with them. This is sometimes why this option is offered. New people coming in settle down to how things are when they start. The same sort of changes reached my wife's school much later and no way out. They are told to comply as they are easy to replace. In my wife's case the changes over being just a classroom teacher seriously interfered with our social life. Lots of work at home and I do mean lots for a little extra money. According to her headmaster she was doing too much really. She was putting as much effort as she usually did into her work and coped. One of her friends didn't and needed pills. Some did a more realistic amount of extra work. Lots struggled.

Now think about covid and changes in hospitals as a result also the workload. Throw in clamped down pay rises. The DOB aspect probably figures as well.

:( One B'ham hospital currently has a couple of wards of covid patients. It's on the rise again.
