I'm about to have a new double door fitted between two rooms, and a lovely peice of OAK as the threshold fitted.

Whats the best way of bringing out the colour and preserving the oak from wear and tear.

Not sure to varnish, which is best to use or

to polish this oak.

Wear and tear wise the oak will probably see you out, but as for a treatment, consider Danish or teak oil....try on an offcut to see if you like it!

No , oil is best, the wear will be taken by the oak, anything applied like varnish will break up quickly underfoot. Should get 50 years out of it , unless you all wear hobnail boots for slippers. :?:
