Oak/Engineered Onto Old Concrete Floor - Fixing?

Having read many other threads here I'm still not sure

Our concrete kitchen floor is dry & old -

The good lady wants solid wood for the the kitchen ( without a washing machine) ... would an oak floor be ok?

.....if its not, engineered seems the way to go.


What options do I have for fixing it? -

1. Nail direct to concrete?
2. Glue direct to concrete?
3. floating? (what underlay is best?)
4. Batons ( & how do I affix to concrete?)
5. something else?


(4 isn't good as it raises the floor height too much really)

Go for wood-engineered flooring, much better suitable for kitchens than solid floors. Not having a washing machine there does still mean there is more moist in the kitchen: think cooking and doing the dishes - all create moist/vapour.

As for the installation options:
1: I'd be surprised if you succeeded with that No, don't nail into concrete!
2: is an option, use flexible adhesive and the correct notch-trowel
3: the option we prefer, use a combi-underlayment that contains a DPM (2-in-1 product)
4: waste of materials, money and time to be honest
5: use self-adhesive underlayment (Elastilon)
