I have recently fitted a pale oak front door to my house.

At the moment It is totally untreated, just plain wood.

I want to weather protect it without changing the feel or appearance of it.

What should I use?

Idealy I dont want to varnish it.

With thanks.

You could oil it, teak oil if it's exposed, danish oil is ok if it's in sheltered position, if you don't like the result it will allow for staining or varnishing.

Danish is really a varnish. Traditionally raw linseed oil was used if anything at all. think in terms of 20 coats in the first month. It is worth doing. Better would be pure tung oil. If it is good quality oak, (I wondwer though), you coul leave it to go grey.

Danish oil is just that , not a varnish.
Danish oil is a wood finishing oil, made of either Tung oil or Polymerized Linseed oil.
