Ocean Alpha 240x combi boiler problem

Just wondered if anyone can help me regarding my boiler.

Had it installed about 9 years ago and has now started playing up.

It has an intermittant fault- sometimes when I open a hot tap, the boiler does not fire up and the water is cold. If I cut the electric supply to the boiler, wait for a few seconds, then switch on again, it works fine.

It also happens with the heating- sometimes when I switch the heating on it doesn't fire up until I switch off then back on again.

Have just had the pressure switch and temperature sensor replaced to no avail.

Got a baby on the way so need to get it sorted but can't afford a new boiler!

Any help greatly appreciated!

sounds like the diaphram needs changing on the domestic valve they only seem to last about 2 years normaly so you are lucky its lasted that long

I would suggest getting an RGI in as it could be the venturi partially blocked.

Thanks for your replies.

I think the diverter valve has been replaced recently.

If it is the diaphragm, then why would it fix itself when I turn the power off and back on again?

if it hasn't been serviced and safety checked every year I suggest you get it serviced and checked by a specialist boiler service engineer .

How often is "sometimes"?

You need to do some investigating yourself.

What do the lights on the front do?. Does the fan start? Does the pump run etc. Have you checked the primary flow microswitch is activated? (on left at back).

Forget the domestic diaphragm...the faults on heating as well.

The venturi`s in these tend to collect little nodules of dirt in them which are not particularly big and when people blow through the tubes etc they thnk everything is clear and ok, but they need taking out and cleaned properly as they stop air pressure switch getting the right pressure to activate

Defining sometimes is difficult- it can do it twice a day then be fine for a week before it does it again.

When it's playing up, I'll open the hot tap, the fan starts but it doesn't fire up. I switch the power off and back on again and it fires up straight away.

With the heating, the fan starts and the pump works, but again, it won't fire up.

There aren't any lights on the front.

Haven't checked the checked the primary flow microswitch but will do next time it plays up.

Thanks a lot.

Remember now...X is the cheapo version without the Leds

As mentioned venturi/fan may need a good clean...common problem at this age...corgi only for safety.
