I wouldn't actually say thats like the octopus joints of years gone by which were to provide a place to three plate all the separate switching on one floor of a domestic property in one place, thats more like a plug in marshelling unit, along the lines of these http://www.hager.co.uk/product-cata.../klik-4-pin-marshalling-boxes/klds8/42413.htm which are widely used above suspended ceilings for quick connection/removal of fittings and have been available for at least 15 years
I've got a few of the 3 output versions of that for the outside lights. 1 serves 2 rear lights, and 2 'clicked' together serve the 5 front lights. Brilliant idea, makes wiring nice and easy, and connection is quick.
