Hi guys

Hoping someone can help.

We have a baxi combi boiler, about 4 years old and last service in September 2014. We have a shower, the mixer types with thermostatic valve and its always work ok. Anyway the other week I noticed a marked in crease in the water pressure coming from the shower unit, plus it use to drip and that ceased. The shower will run hot for a bit then suddenly go cold, then heat back up after a few miniutes.

I assumed the shower was faulty. Anyway did the washing up today and notice the same thing happening downstairs. Takes a while to get hot, runs hot for a time then cold and hot.

I have checked the pressure gauges and they are where they should be, around1,75 bar.

When the boiler was serviced the guy told me that the electrode bit was worn and was surprised it still ran. He told me he wouldn't replace it as it was still working and showed me how to change it if it went..Very fair plumber.

Could this be the reason I am seeing the hot and cold variations, the boiler lighting and going out?

Or any other suggestions please?

Thanks

Problem needs looked at. most likely boiler fitted to a 'dirty' system, hence erratic hot water delivery. Take what your guy said with a pinch of salt regards electrodes- how would he know the electrodes were worn? If he took them out, surely would have been a doodle to fit replacement.

A four year old boiler would have been a condensing boiler- did you get a flue gas analysis printout? If you did, do the CO, CO2 ratios agree with what the manual says? Many questions, sorry no answers as your boiler malfunction can have more than one issue, electrodes not one of them. Then again I could be mistaken

It is not a DIY job to replace the ignition electrodes.

I can understand on a service he would not have wanted to spend time going out to buy electrodes for which he would have needed to charge you.

But he should not have encouraged you to replace them yourself which involves opening the sealed part of the boiler!
