odd floorboards, can we restore?

We would like to sand and varnish the floorboards in our victorian tenement flat. After taking up the carpet we have discovered that a large section in the middle of the floor have been replaced which boards of a different width. If we sand it down as it is will it look uneven? if so, can we replace a section of the floor without it still looking like patchwork? and Is there an inexpensive way to replace the boards and have them as a good match to the others?

Calling a spade a spade No is the answer about a cheap way of replacing a floor.

You have 4 options

• Find your local reclamation yard and see what second hand floor boards they have to offer either to match the originals or the replacements.

• Replace the entire floor with new boards but removing the old with care so you can sell on and just may be pull some of the cost back.

• Over lay the existing floor with soft wood match boarding laid up side down if you don’t want the V joint to show.

• Over lay the existing floor with laminate flooring real wood or make believe wood.
