Hi all,

OK, an odd one - maybe! I have a heated towel rail. The pipe come straight up from the floorboards and into the rail via an inline Drayton TVR 4 thermostatic valve. This morning I noticed a small puddle and then spotted the drip - which was about 3 seconds. I turned it off, tightened the collar (by hand) and checked back and it seemed fine. Turned it back on (though the hot water and heating are off) and there is a very very slow seeping (can only see it if left over 30 minutes). I'm a little worried about what will happen when the water comes back on though.

Ok, so what's odd. As it's in-line, the thermo sits on it's side - and it's not leaking from a joint but from the body of the thermo (there are holes towards the base of the thermo unit and I think it's coming from there).

So question is - can I just replace the thermo unit rather than the whole valve? Is there anything I can look at/check before going down either rout?

Cheers for any help.[/i]

Unscrew the collar and remove the sensing head, then you will be able to see where the leak is coming from. More than likely from the pin in the middle of the valve body. Just replace the valve.

You could just replace the black plastic part but you will not be able to get the spares.

I would actually swap it over from a new valve as thats easier for me.

As a DIY repair you might be better to replace the whole valve.

Its very unusual for them to give any problems and the makers may well be prepared to replace it free for you if its not very old.

OK, thanks for coming back on that gents - so the long and the short - I've got the replace the inline valve rather than the thermo unit (if I can get it on it's own).

Was hoping that there was a way round having to shut off the water to the heated rail and drain the whole thing. Nuts. Had issues with this one in the past and it's turning into a right bogey!

The valve is not that old but I would think it would be a pain to try and claim anything back on it.

As an update, turned on the hot water/heating and no drips after an hour. Just in the process of letting it cool down and testing it - but I suppose that regardless of anything happening today, I'm probably better off changing it anyway?
