if you have a 2 port motorised valve then this could be stuck in the open/on position. it has a permanent live feed to it (the grey wire normally).

thx guys for the tips on getting my oil-fired boiler to only come on when required ( few taps with a hammer on the valves did the trick) however my radiators don't come on downstairs now , upstairs fine as is hw, is it time for an engineer?
