During the Suez oil crisis in the late 50's (I've still got my coupons), a friend with a1936 Austin 12 light saloon ran it on petrol to start, and farm paraffin to run, smelt a bit different, and pinked a bit, plus poor performance, but it ran, and got us to the pub! :D :D :D

There has been a little advancement in dieselengines since then which has made them better but not as robust.

all diesel engines work in the same way. so virtually all oil will work. main problem is gettin it into the cylinders and thru the pump. the oil will go into the engine at the same temp as the injectors, hich when cold could cause minor problems since the oil will be thicker. its also heated before going into the pump to help the pump (altho some pumps can handle un-heated oil)

That's the spirit! We need to crack down really hard on initiative and enterprise.

What's the penalty for running a car on Prescott's anal gas?
That`s Flatus, for the technically minded...Years ago when we had a car industry  there was a plan to build a new sportscar....BL got together with heavy industry lorry builders and were going to make a DENNIS-HEALEY

What happens if you try to run a diesel car on 28 sec central heating oil ?

We've been running the boat on heating oil for a good few years now with no problems. Its easier to get where I am than cherry (red diesel) :)

Boat runs 2x Ford Endura DE engines, same as in the 96 on escort vans. (exactly the same cos thats wot they came outa).

probably filtered used cooking oil. if you have a cat converter, it seems gets rid of the smell

probably nothin. its similar to diesel. see the thread about runnin on veggie oil

Similar to diesel? then so is petrol. As far as an engine goes, 28 sec (should be class C2 oil) is nothing like "diesel" which is class D (or 35 sec oil). It has almost NO lubricating properties for starters. It is not sold with all the additives which prolong engine life, as diesel is.

As for biodiesel being no good, Scania make 50,000 engines a year, and a few of these are used in Swedish buses. The buses definitely use plant derived diesel, so what "biodiesel" are various posters referring to?
