Ok to use Gloss on Kitchen Cupboards?

Hi... in need of some advice...

Just recently moved in and the kitchen cupboards have been painted white by previous, but it looks like a rush job as it is very patchy. Is it ok to paint over them?? It looks like gloss was used before.

hard to say if they were properly primed or not. I would recommend eggshell instaed- easier to get a better finish and less fussy about the priming.
