Old 18v dewalt battery replacement

Hi I have an old dewalt fat boy set (torch,jigsaw,angle driver,trimsaw,reciprocating saw, circular saw) from a few years back and was looking to give the son it, only problem the batteries are past it what would you do in this position with regards to batteries?

If it's the old nicd batteries then there are plenty of copied still available on flea bag
 
Or buy new XR battery and use adapter for your current tools (need charger), if you switch later you have more recent batteries .
