I have just moved house and the alarm system has a bell box. Is it possible to replace it with a siren ?

Yes, although you may have to change the wiring configuration depending on the age of the panel. Also there may not be enough cores in the cable to correctly operate a modern SAB (Siren)

doubt it.

at the sounder end yes,

i nearly said at the bell end

Old bells could run on as little as two cores pos and a switched neg was just making the OP aware they may encounter problems. Since we have no details on existing Bell and panel wse don't know if it's two or 20 years old !

but who would run a 2 core to a bell?

even brocks didnt do that (so i am told)

i can believe that.
did you know that origonal brocks systems were run in 2 core bell wire?

Yeah i've seen a couple in upgrades before. Hence when you go to do a 3 hour upgrade and end up running a cable from bottom of house to top the customer is not amused. Thats why I mentioned it
