Am I likely to come across problems when I come to loosen and then tighten up this drain valve again after draining the system?

It won't have been opened up for a while so just trying to figure out if I need to buy anything else before opening it - not sure what!?

Thanks.

IF you can undo it and it drains the system you will do well to fit a new washer before refilling.

yes the drain off wont work.

you will need a 15mm compression tee, a small piece of 15mm pipe and a 15mm quarter turn valve and a pipe cutter.

wow mystic meg is here

or he could just buy another MT c0ck & use the inners out of that if the old one is completely knackered

It will most likely have been closed too tightly, resulting in the washer sticking to the seating and not releasing when you open the valve. You'll then have a very slow drain-down, replace the washer on the bit you turn by winding it out all the way. If you're feeling brave you can hoik the old washer out and quickly push the repaired innards back in, but it's at the risk of getting very wet.

Of course, it may all go much more smoothly than this, but I'd still recommend replacing the washer after you've drained down.

sorry cbf i bow to your experience. such a simple job for a novice i know. crack on OP. make sure B&Q are open when you start it.

(a pessimist is never disappointed)

The pipe is the lowest in the house so taking a rad off will still mean there is a fair amount of water still in the lowest pipes... (they need to be empty as i'm cutting into them elsewhere)

Why would I need a compression tee and a 15mm quarter turn valve?

I will replace the washer - are they standard sizes?

Also, don't understand:

Thanks
