Hello.... I have a 1970's semi detached which has an old fireplace chimney already capped with lead top. This is on the outside of the house above the kitchen and is capped just below main house guttering level.
On the inside of the house the old fireplace entrance is bricked up.. I am now getting slight dampness coming through the inside wall above the old chimney entrance near the ceiling (basically where the chimney is).
Will fitting an air brick to the already capped chimney solve this?
If yes how do I go about doing this?
Is it easier to just remove the lead capped top and fit something else which allows air flow? If yes any ideas?
I am a brickwork novice but a technical person.
Any help will be gratefully received.
