Hi, Im buying some reclaimed roof tiles. Just wanted to check with you guys on here is it ok to buy used tiles with out knowing how old they are. And do they beacme less effective the older they are?

The age doesn't matter as much as the condition, check them over and preferably dig into the pallet a bit as some places will stick the "poorer" tiles (or bricks for that matter) inside a pallet of good ones. Things to look for are the surface breaking up and flaking off which usually means they are on their last legs.

When you have your 2nd hand tiles I would advise that you go through them & sort them by thickness.
Depending on how old they are the difference in thickness of a tile that has been at the bottom (eaves) of a roof compared to one that has been at the top (Ridge) can be quite a bit.
If you find this I would put the thinner ones at the top & the thicker ones at the bottom, that way the thickness will eventually even out in 20 years or so.
