Old worcester bosch 280 problems

Hi all,
We recently purchased our first house which is an 70 years old. The boiler that is already in place is an Woecester Bosch 280 which we think has been in the house for over 20 years.
So far over the winter it has be used ok, although the radiators and water are not red hot they are ok for this winter.
Although last night the water went cold, and now we are unable to get any hot water.
When the boiler is on it is starting to make a rattling sound, but the gas flames can be seen though the window. This lasts for about 2 minuets until a bigger rattling sounds is made and the gas light goes out. Following this nothing happens. The pressure on the system has also been low seen we moved into the house, if this is likely to cause any issues? The system we restart for a few minuets again makes a sulpering sound and goes out.
I have tried the rest button and turn off and on again but with no look. Would anybody have any ideas.

We were hoping that the boiler would see us though the winter and to have it replaced during the summer. So we are now wondering if we change the boiler for a new one, or pay and have this one looked at any maybe fixed. Given the fact that we haven saved up yet.

there could be a few things this could be..simplest would be a diverter valve. this model has a cartridge type. really you need an engineer to check quite a lot of things including gas pressures etc. theres no easy answer, if you have no money saved or available i would put it on coontract with B/gas or better still get a new boiler, there s a firm doing monthly payments on a tv advert.

i wouldn t be throwing a few hundred quid on a boiler of that age personally

I remember fitting these 28cdi's in 1997/98 when they first came out so 15/16 years old is what your boiler is and as the doktor says it could be one of a few faults so you will need to get someone out to take a look.I would however recommend that you don't go throwing lots of money at a boiler that age.
