You have to embrace the wonky bricks, they are reclaimed and all different sizes and shapes. It looks fantastic looking at it but not so much on a picture.

We have a rope on the wall where we rest on in front of us, we hang there watching TV rather than sitting down

Please do no such thing. You need to open up the fireplace to create a space for your media stuff and move the TV right down to just above it. Then without haste install a surround sound system and creat a hidden air vent.
And put the lamp
