OMG My Big Disciplinary Tomorrow

Dismissed for gross misconduct would be sad for you but great news for the thread. Seriously though HR must have all the facts by now. Unless there’s a systemic problem. If others do it and don’t get sacked you might have a good case.
I'd be looking for a clear procedure that addressed the impossible conflict placed on a team member when another team member asks them to cover because they are unfit.

The gross element of the misconduct is his mate being drunk and him concealing that from management. There will be a procedure if someone on call is incapacitated. Looking after a mate would get him a medal in the army but might lead to him being sack in civvy street
