there is a new plan for only one medic to go to a 999 call, they may go by push bike in shopping areas, moterbikes in heavy traffic, estate car. all for quickness ,two will be deployed in ambulance to cart u off :) some say there will be more people to respond to calls  some say it will cost lives :?

What will the first headline be
Person dies as the medics chain fell off
or
Person survived because the cylist got to the incident quickly

In most cases there is need to stabilise the casualty before starting to transport. This can be achieved by a single properly trained person.

If an ambulance is first response then it will be stationary on scene until the casualty is ready to be transported. An ambulance invariably takes longer for a journey than a smaller faster vehicle.

Sending the first vital trained person to scene in a car faster than an ambulance means treatment starts earlier and the casualty is then in care until the ambulance arrives.

round here we have first responders, not paramedics but first aiders, live locally and have a "company car" so get round to local people quite quickly.

a lot of first aid is some very simple things that can keep you alive.

lots of callouts are for very trivial things

I am of course not saying that ambulances shouldn't go, but we have an island community and it can take time to battle over the bridge.

BTW everybody should be trained in first aid, and keep up to date with practical exercises. It's no use just having one trained person in the boat.... he might be the one who gets hurt.

Very true.

And when out with the family and someone is injured or taken ill the actions taken in the first four minutes can decide the outcome.

It doesn't take long to learn the basics of First Aid necessary to keep the majority of casualties alive until the ambulance service arrives.

Pleath thir! I've got a St Johns Ambulance susstifficate for first aid.

we had them on motorbikes and cars down here. Theyve withdrawn them. Not sure if it was because it didnt work or because of staff shortages. Only one reason teh government is doing it......money or lack of same as always
