Looking for a smarter way to manage your heating this winter? We’ve been testing the new Aqara Radiator Thermostat W600 to see how quiet, accurate and easy it is to use around the home. Click here read our review.
I looked late last night but I am at work now so can't but for the life of me I couldnt find any sort of pressure gauge or this braded hose to repressurise.
Bit of an update and have been trying to get my head around what system I have.
I couldn't find a pressure gauge and filling loop because I don't have one, I have an open system with a F&E tank. Hence re-pressurising the system is irrelevant.
The only thing I can think of now is that there is a blockage in either the flow or return pipe to the 4th radiator upstairs as the 3 others downstairs are red hot and its only cold water to the bedroom.
Its between the manifold and the radiator, I have tried bleeding it and there is no air escaping its just water that comes out, thats with the pump on too so I would have expected it to force the air out but it hasn't.
The manifolds are all underneath flooring and inaccessible. What is the best way to get this working?
The fact you have a TRV on the radiator could mean it is stuck in the closed position. Have you had the head off to ensure the pin is protruding.
Otherwise I think the best thing to do now is remove the problem radiator and run off a bucketful of water from both the flow and return pipe.
This will remove any air lock if there is one, or confirm which of the pipes has a blockage.
Firstly you should bleed the radiators with the CH off, with it on & the pump running there is a chance that the system could draw air in, however I don't think this is your problem.
You refer to manifolds, so I'm assuming the pipework to the rads is 8mm which is ok but is prone to being blocked by sludge which is what I think is your problem with this rad is.
You need to flush the system to get the rad working, then you will want to add some system cleaner to the system via the F&E tank, then after the cleaner has had time to work (some types can be left in for a week or so) you need to drain down the system then add some inhibitor which should stop the system sludge.
Have a look at the link below, it describes what you have to do,
Hi Mandate, Yeah I have had the TRV's apart and they are all working correctly...
Yes I think you are correct and it needs a damn good clear out of the pipes to try and free up the blockage, you are right somewhere in the system it turns in to small bore pipe and then increases to 15mm piping when it emerges from the floor boards.
I'll do as you say and see how I get on!
Thanks for everyone's help! I may be back if it doesnt work out and pick your brains some more!
