Toying with extending and making a big kitchen diner. Currently the dining room has an open fire (1930s coal fireplace). Is this an issue? We'll obviously want extraction in the kitchen area. I know the sensible thing to do is block it up but we want to keep as many original features as possible. Are there building regs related to fires in rooms with extraction? Will having a gaping hole in the wall effect the thermal calcs for the extension?
