open soil pipe...

I have removed my old downstairs loo today, ready for installing a new one tomorrow. I now have an open soil pipe in the floor. Do i need to block this somehow temporarily over night, or can it be left open?

If left open, will i wake up to a house smelling like a sewer, or at worse will i just not wake up?


PS obviously an answer today would be helpful

Will this work...

sit the new toilet in place and insert it into the pan connector, and then tip a bucket of water into the toilet?
