Hi all,
We need urgent advice and a report from structural engineer required to inspect a chimney breast that we altered to form a recessed TV opening in an apartment.
We probably need assessment, written report, and remedial design if required. Experience with residential flats and Building Regulations essential.
Can anyone advise! Thank you

How wide is the opening?

You've answered your own question: you need an SE. Check out Google obviously but a better bet might be a call to your friendly local building control If all else fails contact the Institution of Structural Engineers.

You may be in trouble if you've affected the structure without freeholder consent.

Thanks. I received a number of quotations before going ahead not realising any of this

Whist this is not big span, by any means, it's still worthy of scrutiny.

Factors such as the amount of masonry above the opening (more the better i.e. self-arching etc), floor load, masonry make-up, sides buttressing etc.

What exactly is the concern? Do you have a photo?
