Hi all. Got a 1930s house and looking to open up the brickwork of the fire after its been patched in. But I'm unsure how far down the original fireplace goes. Anybody got an idea?

The front bottom bit around the bottom is definitely patched in... but I'm sure about the bit above there going up to the arched bricks.

Thanks

to the blackened bricks
Yeah that was what I expected. But then couldn't see a lintel and came across the arch further up. And the bricks seemed to have a straight line at the edge of the back from the floor all the way to the arch so wasn't sure.

the arch is the lintel....like in a bridge.
That's why i wasnt sure if i removed up until the arch as I'd seen both only - removed up to the arch and also removed up to a couple of rows below the arch.

I'm maybe overthinking it!
