Hi I have just moved into a house and we are wanting to open up the fireplace in the back room. We will not be putting a fire in but just keeping it as a recessed opening.
Will the recessed opening need to have some form of ventilation and what would be the best way of achieving this? Could the chimney be capped off so it doesn’t need ventilation?
This fireplace is on the party wall of a 1930’s semi if that makes any difference.

Also two of the bedrooms upstairs have air vents where disused chimneys have been bricked up; ideally we’d like to remove these vents as they look horrible. Could they be removed if the chimneys are caped off on the roof? Both of these are on the party wall again.

Cheers
